Daily Updates at the ROAR On-Road Carpet Nationals.

Sunday Finals and ROAR Nationals Champions Made. 03-16-08

Today We ran all of the finals in a Triple A-Main format, this means that the top 10 in each class raced three times to decide the national champions for 2008.

Team Trinity did very well, Mike Dumas who sat on the pole in the Mod 12th scale class went on to win the Championship. His Speedmerchant 12th scale car was powered by a Trinity Duo 4.5 turn motor and Trinity IB 4600 4 cell pack. Mike was victorious by winning the first and the third main. Great job Mike!

In the Stock TC class it was Travis Schreven who was Top Qualifier, Travis's Xray was powered by a Trinity IB 4600 battery and a Trinity Co27 motor, which was the motor of choice by the majority of drivers in this class, Even over any Brushless equivalent. Travis went on to win A1 and A3 to become the Roar national stock Champion. Congratulations Travis.

In the Mod TC class It was My self who Top Qualified the event. I was able to hold off a hard charging Barry Baker in A1 for the win, In A2 i had a bit of a cleaner run and being TQ helped me clinch the title in A2. My Xray T2008 was powered by a Trinity DUO 4.0 and a Trinity IB 4600 battery pack. Some of the drivers did use Lipo technology but it did not seem to pre vale at this race for all classes were won by some kind of sub C battery.

In the other classes was some great racing. In 12th stock Brian Wynn was able to win his first Roar National title, Brian works at CRC and it was great to see him pre vale after a hard fought battle. In the Touring car13.5 rubber finals Josh Hohnstein took it home in the third final with some very hard chargers behind.

In the 12th scale super stock Ray Darroch did everything he needed to do in the end, Ray actually won the first A-main but some how the race had to be re ran which made it very hard for him but in the end he was national champ.

I also must say that the Hobby Town USA did a great job handling the event, their crew in the hobby shop and the Tech crew that they provided were very friendly and did a great job, Thank you for that.

Sincerely, Paul Lemieux

Saturday Qualifying Now Done. 03-15-08

Today we ran two qualifiers, so the mains are set and qualifying is officially over. Today was a great day for the team, Trinity Ended up TQ in Three (Very Important) classes. Travis Schreven started it out in TC Stock putting his Trinity powered XRAY on the TQ spot, Then It was Mike Dumas in 12th scale Mod putting in a Very Impressive run in the last qualifier to set the TQ with his Trinity powered Speedmerchant ride, And in Mod TC it was My self keeping the TQ spot with My Trinity/Xray car. I am Very happy with the whole teams performance so far, and I truly think the product behind us is incredible. Sorry that the report is a short one but its time to get some sleep before the finals tomorrow.

Sincerely, Paul Lemieux

Friday, First two rounds of qualifying, 03-14-08.

Friday at the carpet nats.

We had two rounds of qualifying. The track today definitely had more traction, the chassis on my Xray was rubbing only a little on the carpet at the beginning of the day and by the end of the day it rubbed much more, this means it was rolling more which is a sign of more traction.

In the stock classes the Trinity Co27 Motors seemed to be the motor of choice, Brushless is allowed but the CO's do seem to be faster than any 17.5 brushless motor. In Mod Tc I settled on Trinity Ib 4600 battery's and a DUO 4.0 brushless motor and it is working great. Barry Baker had a great run in 12th mod but his transponder didn't count, otherwise he would have been right up front. Barry is running Trinity IB 4600 battery's and a Trinity DUO 4.5 turn in his 12th scale. My 12th scale is good also but I crashed alot lol, so I have high hopes for tomorrow. The rest of our team is running good a with Travis Shreven sitting on the TQ spot in the TC stock class. Other than that I will let the Results speak for them selves.

Thursday, last round of practice03-13-08.

Thursday was day two of practice, we got 2 more rounds of controlled practice followed by one round of timed practice in our heats to be like a simulated qualifier. The traction today was much higher and more consistent than yesterday.

In the final controlled practice round we really got to see who was going to be hard to beat when racing starts. In 12th scale super stock it was Ray Darroch who set the fast time in the round of practice heats. In Rubber 13.5 it was Josh Hohnstein who looked really fast taking the practice Top Qualifying Position. Touring car Super stock it was Ray Darroch who was the man to beat again and TQ in that class. In 12th stock, (the largest class in the event), Frank Calandra was the racer who set the TQ for the practice race round. In 12th Mod, Mike Dumas had a good run and set the TQ for the round, not a big surprise, lol. In TC Stock, Eli Ezro set the pace with a smooth run as he always runs. Elie represents the older gentlemen very well, (Sorry, had to say gent class, Eli). On to the Mod TC class and showing us the fast line around the track was racer, Chris Tosollini put in a solid run and set the fastest overall time for the practice race round.

In the last practice race round, there were 33 total heats. This last and final practice round before race starts was run like how the first qualifier of this event is going to be run. This will allow any drivers to eliminate any possible issues they might have and make last changes before racing starts. Below is the amount of heats in each class;

    12th Super Stock (or considered 19t) - 4 heats.
    TC 13.5 rubber - 5 heats.
TC Super Stock - 4 heats.
    12th Stock - 8 full heats.
    12th Modified - 2 heats.
    TC Stock - 6 heats.
TC Modified - 4 reduced size heats.

Jim Dieter has been working with all of the Team Trinity drivers threw out practice to get the drivers the feel and power each driver is looking for. So far most of the drivers have settled on the DUO 4.0 turn brushless motor for TC Mod, and in 12th mod most of us are using the DUO 4.5 turn. For this race most of us are running the IB 4600 VIS+PRO batteries, I believe those combos will be very good come around race time.

I will have plenty more to report tomorrow and if you have any questions about the race I have started a thread (Paul Lemieux from the Nats) under the On Road Forum in the Tech Talk section of this web site.

Thanks, Paul…

Wednesday, first day of practice at the Roar Nationals. 03-12-08

Race: Roar carpet nationals

Track: Hobbytown USA, Hobby Plex, Omaha NE.

I am very impressed with the facility, when you walk in the front doors theirs a HUGE full line hobby shop, and in the back their is another very large room for the very nice track and pitting area for the racers.

Practice started at 8am. All the teams assembled and were at the track early in the mourning to make final preparations to their cars. The track was not grooved in yet so most of the guys are skipped some of the early practice in order to be more pre paired to practice when the groove came up. At around 4pm the track was getting in good shape and everyone was getting up to speed, In stock Travis Schreven came out of the gate and was fast in stock right away, in mod I feel pretty good right now about my car but their is allot of people right now who have not shown their best stuff, Baker, Cyurl, Tosilini, Dumas, Burch etc. Tomorrow we will really see who will be the front runners.

Layout: The track is a very nice size for TC and12th scale, not too big or small. The layout is technical but fast. Like you can see in the pictures of the track, there are some very fast sections leading in to technical sections. This will make it a challenge for all calibers of drivers.

If anyone wishes to ask questions about this race or anything in general I have started a thread inside the Tech Talk section of this web site, on top of the reports here on the main page from the race I will have additional and more up to date info on the "Paul Lemieux from the Roar Nats" thread inside the "On Road Forum" of Tech Talk. So please join me and i will do my best to keep you up to date.

Thanks, Paul
